Our Story from the beginning

Back in 1985, Jim and Sandy Allen saw a need that most people hadn’t even considered yet. Families, ranchers, and farmers living in remote places struggled with the same basic challenge — reliable water. In areas far from the grid, water systems often depended on expensive diesel generators, windmills, or hauling water by hand. It was a burden, both financially and physically. The Allens believed there had to be a better way, and with that conviction they launched what was then known as SolarJack.

At the time, solar energy was hardly mainstream. It was considered experimental, unreliable, or just too expensive. But Jim and Sandy were determined. They began designing and building dependable solar water pumps that could transform the lives of people living in rural and off-grid areas. Their vision was simple but powerful: harness the sun’s energy to create water systems that just worked — with no fuel, no noise, and no constant maintenance. Over time, their small company grew into a trusted name in the solar pumping industry, known for quality, innovation, and a commitment to serving people in tough-to-reach places.

Today

Nearly four decades later, our story continues! Sun Pumps is now owned and operated by two families who know rural living firsthand — Garrett & Jenna Hoisington and Tate & Tiffinny Hoisington, along with their families. We grew up out in a small agriculture town, where solving problems with your hands wasn’t an option, it was a way of life. Between raising livestock, repairing equipment, and finding creative solutions for everyday challenges, we learned early on how much difference a reliable water system makes.

When we stepped in to continue the Sun Pumps legacy, we brought that perspective with us. We understand the peace of mind that comes from turning on a faucet or checking a stock tank and knowing your water is where it needs to be. We know the relief of not having to worry whether the pump will quit on the hottest day of summer, or whether the generator will run out of fuel in the middle of a drought. That’s why we’ve committed ourselves to building on the foundation Jim and Sandy laid: designing dependable, sustainable, and easy-to-use solar pumping solutions that last.

Our Purpose

At Sun Pumps, our purpose is simple but far-reaching: to provide sustainable solar water pumping and power solutions for the people and places that need them most. For ranchers, that might mean keeping cattle watered in remote pastures. For farmers, it might mean irrigating a field with a system that won’t break down when you need it most. For families, it can mean powering an off-grid home and securing the most basic resource of all — clean, reliable water.
